Byetta Use May Lead to Acute Pancreatitis
Byetta, technically known as exenatide, is prescribed to Type 2 diabetes patients in order to improve glycemic control. Reports have linked Byetta to serious side effects, including, but not limited to:
- The onset of acute pancreatitis (a sudden inflammation of the pancrease)
- Hemorrhagic and necrotizing pancreatitis

If you or a loved one took Byetta and suffered any adverse side effects, you may be entitled to compensation. If you are a Type 2 diabetes patient who has taken Byetta and has suffered any side effects, it is important for you to understand the health risks and know your legal rights.
FDA Receives Reports of Kidney Problems Linked to Byetta
Since its introduction to the market in April 2005 through October 2008, the FDA received 78 reports of problems with kidney function in patients using Byetta. Some cases occurred in patients with pre-existing kidney disease or in patients with one or more risk factors for developing kidney problems.
Nearly 7 million prescriptions for Byetta were dispensed between April 2005 and September 2008.
The FDA worked with the manufacturer of Byetta, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc., to update the drug's label with stronger warnings.
