Celebrex
Celebrex Places Users At Risk of Heart Attacks, Strokes, FDA says
Celebrex, the well-known brand of arthritis and pain-relief medication, has been linked to serious side effects, including heart attacks and strokes. The medication, manufactured by Pfizer Inc., is part of a class of pain medications known as "Cox-2 inhibitors." The other Cox-2 inhibitors include Vioxx and Bextra, both of which were voluntarily removed from the market by their manufacturers due to adverse side effects.
After Vioxx Withdrawn, Attention Turns Toward Celebrex
After Vioxx was withdrawn from the market, Celebrex was put under increased scrutiny for its health-related side effects.
On December 17, 2004, the FDA announced that it was halting the use of Celebrex in a clinical trial after Celebrex was also found to increase the risk of heart attacks among users. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues to examine information on Celebrex to determine if this potentially dangerous drug should be removed from the market.
