A record number of Americans will be traveling this holiday weekend, according
to a forecast released by AAA. A total of 44.2 million people will travel
by roads, air, railways and waterways to celebrate the holiday. This is
a 2.9 percent increase compared to last year at this time. The increase
in travel can be attributed this year to predicted sunny, warm days, and
lower gas prices, airfares, and car rental rates. The top travel destination
is Orlando, FL followed by Vancouver, Cancun, Seattle and Punta Cana.
37.5 million people will drive to their destinations. If you will be one
of the millions of people on the roads this holiday weekend, it is important
to take extra safety precautions in heavy traffic. Also, follow the basic
rules of the road and be sure to wear your seat belt, observe safe speed
limits, and use caution in work zones.
While celebrating this Independence Day you should avoid drinking and driving.
If you decide to drink, be sure to designate a sober driver or get a cab
or Uber to transport you home safely. AAA Auto Club has a ‘Tow to
Go’ Program in some states which offers a confidential ride home
to a driver who has had too much to drink. This is free of charge over
the holiday weekend. The ‘Tow to Go’ Program is designed to
protect everyone on the roads, not just intoxicated drivers.
Where ever you go and whatever you do, please travel safely this holiday!
