Early Tuesday morning, October 10, 2017 a construction worker was killed
when a car ran into his backhoe on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
State police have identified the man killed as Robert W. Marchetti, 63,
of Luzerne County. The accident occurred outside the Kittatinny Tunnel
in Franklin County, just outside of Shippensburg.
According to reports, Marchetti was attempting to drive his backhoe across
the eastbound lanes when a car driven by a 21-year-old New Jersey man
struck the backhoe’s rear bucket. Marchetti was ejected from the
backhoe and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle and his passenger were taken to area hospitals
with non-life-threatening injuries.
