Providing Legal Services Since 1888

Founded by Frank Borbridge Wickersham, our firm has been representing the people of Pennsylvania since 1888. Born in 1863 as one of twelve children, Mr. Wickersham received his preliminary education in the public school system before going on to graduate from what is now Shippensburg University in 1884. In 1885, he registered as a law student under Senator McCarrell and was admitted to the Dauphin County Bar in June of 1888.

Soon after being admitted to practice, Mr. Wickersham founded his firm, which would later become known as Metzger Wickersham after Maurice R. Metzger joined the practice around the turn of the century.

Both Mr. Wickersham and Mr. Metzger had long, illustrious legal careers. Mr. Wickersham served as an elected member of the Pennsylvania State Legislature for two terms, as well as Assistant District Attorney and President of the Dauphin County Bar Association. He left his legal practice in 1920 to serve as a judge, a position he held for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1942.

Like Mr. Wickersham, Mr. Metzger served as a schoolteacher before entering the legal profession. He was the valedictorian of his high school, Middletown High School, and attended Lebanon Valley College. After graduating in 1907, he went on to earn his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Mr. Metzger practice law for 55 years and was instrumental in establishing the firm’s client-centric approach. He was known for meeting clients in the evenings and on weekends at his home, and he earned a reputation for providing compassionate legal services built on strong attorney-client relationships.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Metzger served as an elected representative for the Republican Party of Dauphin County in the Pennsylvania State Legislature, as well as President of the Dauphin County Bar Association.
