To best assist injured clients please consider the tips below for seeking medical treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

5 Tips to Help Seek Medical Treatment During COVID-19 Pandemic*:

As the world collectively faces the ramifications of the heightening COVID-19 pandemic, drastic life adjustments have impacted all individuals, and more specifically have greatly impacted injured clients.

For instance, some clients may experience medical providers postponing important appointments or temporarily suspending therapy regimen. But, of course, there’s no pause button for your injuries or your pain. Whether you’re currently in physical therapy or pain management, here are five tips to help you seek the medical treatment you may need in the near future to stay on track with your recovery.

  1. Contact your medical providers in advance to confirm your existing appointments are still proceeding as scheduled.
  2. If your medical provider postpones your appointment and/or therapy regimen, be sure to request alternative home-based therapy programs with written instructions from your doctor. Save these documents for your case.
  3. Document your at-home treatment. Take photographs, videos and be sure to log your treatments in a journal at least once per week (for example, your symptoms, limitations, and emotions, what you did for treatment, for how long, and how your injured area responded to treatment). Your medical provider typically records all of these details in your medical records, so be sure to log regularly. For the time being, your journal will serve as the documentation supporting what you’re going through.
  4. If you need topurchase medical equipment to help with your at-home treatment, make these purchases as soon possible to avoid delays and shortages.
  5. If your canceled appointment was for diagnostic testing (for example, CT scans, MRIs, etc.), be sure to reschedule with your provider as soon as possible. Document your symptoms in a journal, and ask your treating medical professional what, if anything, you can do for your treatment while waiting for your rescheduled test.

Lastly, if you are able to attend regularly scheduled appointments, please follow the well-publicized protective measures.
