Independence Day is a time where families and friends come together to celebrate with cookouts, backyard games, and fireworks. However, it is important to also be aware of the dangers that come with this holiday.

Unfortunately, Independence Day has a high rate of traffic fatalities, with 19% more deaths than the average holiday. This is due to a variety of factors, including drunk driving and increased traffic.

Troopers reported 505 arrests for driving under the influence and issued 23,738 total traffic citations. This included 845 individuals who were caught not wearing seat belts and 210 people who failed to properly secure children in safety seats.
