A charter bus accident killed three people and injured nearly 40 others on August 6, 2023 along Interstate 81 in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County. The bus was traveling from New York and was near mile marker 74 at the time of the accident.

Heavy rain was reported in the area when the accident occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. The three fatalities were declared on the scene and the injuries of more than three dozen other passengers ranged from minor to severe, CBS News reports.

According to a crash report, the incident began when the bus drove off of the road, striking an embankment and rolling onto its right side. At that time, the bus also hit the back of a car stopped in the right lane.

Although the investigation into the cause of the accident appears to be pending, this incident is an important reminder of the potential consequences of a bus accident. Whether these incidents occur to passengers of charter buses, city buses, school buses, or similar vehicles, the injuries sustained can be catastrophic, and people can lose loved ones.

When bus accidents are caused by negligence, victims can pursue compensation from the parties that are at fault for an incident. If such an incident has affected your life, more than one party may be at fault – that means you can hold a driver, company, relevant government entity, and those in charge of maintenance responsible for negligence that caused your injuries.
