Deadly Year So Far in Pennsylvania for Car Crashes

Car Accident

The first half of 2024 saw 551 people perish in motor vehicle crashes in the Commonwealth. Of course, that is 551 too many. However, the disturbing part of that number is that it marks a 2.6% rise in crash-related deaths over the first half of 2023. The U.S. Department of Transportation did not provide a reason behind the increase in deaths in a newly released study.

The study, meanwhile, showed a slightly more positive picture for nationwide traffic fatalities. Overall, the projections in the study showed a decrease of 3.2% in the first half of 2024 compared to the first half of 2023. This is a decrease of over 600 projected fatalities. These numbers likely reflect newer vehicles being manufactured to be much safer than in the past. However, in today’s cars, drivers have more distractions than they ever did in the past, which can lead to more preventable crashes.
